Finishing decisions become easier when the incoming condition and acceptance result are written down first. This page is a starting point for customers who need to compare a machine direction, dry media or a sample process for their own parts.

Start with the part, not a generic machine name

Describe the material, dimensions, weight, current defects and target appearance. A photo should show the whole part and close-ups of the difficult areas. If the part has a drawing, identify the edges, holes, threads, fits and surfaces that must be protected.

Define what “finished” means

Deburring, edge smoothing, cleaning, roughness reduction, satin appearance and bright finishing are different objectives. A useful acceptance note can include a visual reference, critical dimension, permitted edge change, cleanliness requirement or downstream coating step. Without this definition, a visually brighter part may still fail the application.

Compare the complete process

Machine, media, compound, loading, movement, cycle control, separation and inspection work together. Vibratory, barrel, disc, magnetic, grinding and dry-finishing directions may each fit different geometries. The selection should be screened against part contact, recess access, nesting risk, dust or liquid handling and the next manufacturing step.

Use evidence from a representative trial

A trial is useful when the parts represent the production range and the inspection method is agreed in advance. Mark sensitive features, inspect at fixed intervals and record changes. Keep the trial result tied to the specific part family and process route. Do not treat a product photo or a single demonstration as proof of a production result.
